Geological Field Trips
Eocene
highstand systems tract parasequence from my field area on the
Potohar Plateau
We start the geology field
trip at the Salt Range which exposes Cambrian-Eocene Strata. We
will then take you through the Neogene Siwalik fossil fields to
the Margallah Range. From here on you will pass through
carbonates and clastics that were deposited during the Eocene
and contain most of Pakistan's hydrocarbons and the fossils of
'walking whales'. The tour will continue along the Karakoram to
the main mantle thrust at Dobair where you can experience
tremors at a frequency of every 3 minutes. We will the take you
past the western Himalayan syntaxis of Nanga Parbat to Chalt in
Hunza where the Indian Plate collides with the Eurasian Plate.
