Mountain
passes (called La in archaic Tibetan) connect one valley from
another via a high. often glaciated gully through a mountain
range. They offer the quickest and often the most picturesque
way of commuting from one valley to the next. Most of these
passages lie in the 4500-5000 meter range and offer amazing
views and opportunities to climb peaks flanking the pass. For
example Ali Malik Peak can be climbed when crossing the Burji
La, and unclimbed Thalle Peak can be climbed as a side-trip from
Thalle La.
Thalle Pass at 16,000 feet.
Unclimbed 18,000 foot Thalle Peak.
